NEW BOOK:
L7YOUT - GRAFFITI & STREET ART IN MARRAKECH
New Release: “L7yout” – A Journey Along the Vibrant Walls of Marrakech
Marrakech – a city that writes its stories on walls. With their new book, “L7yout,” Loïc from WAFL Design and Emilia from Marrakech Art Tour place these walls, the L7yout, at the center of attention. It is a tribute to urban art, the fleeting beauty of street art, and the artists who bring their work to public spaces—often overcoming obstacles along the way.
From Fading Graffiti to Iconic Murals
“L7yout” (Arabic for “walls”) is more than just a photo book—it’s a narrative unveiling the stories of the city hidden in its corners and facades. It documents international works by artists like Jace but also shines a spotlight on the subtle, local influences: the graffiti and slogans of KACM football fans, naive floral motifs, or the spontaneous creativity that defines street art in Marrakech.
A Collaboration Between Documentation and Design
Emilia, founder of Marrakech Art Tour, and Loïc from WAFL Design combined their perspectives and expertise to bring “L7yout” to life. “Since 2017, I’ve been documenting Marrakech’s urban art scene,” she says. “It was Loïc’s idea to turn these impressions into a book—a way to invite people to see the city with fresh eyes.” The collaboration merges meticulous visual documentation with unique graphic design.
The Soul of the City in the Details
“L7yout” doesn’t just highlight large murals like the iconic portrait of the mason Aziz by Hendrik Beikirch. It also draws attention to the small, often overlooked details: tags, stencils, and stickers that tell their own stories. The book invites readers to discover Marrakech beyond the beaten path—through the eyes of the artists who give their walls a voice.
Release and Availability
The book spans 328 pages and features a foreword in English, French, and Arabic. “L7yout” will be released as a first edition in January 2025 and printed in a limited run. In Marrakech, it will be available at WAFL Design, La Boucherie Concept Store and Foundouk Gargaa among other locations. A must-read for street art enthusiasts or anyone looking to experience Marrakech from a fresh perspective.
